Washington Secretary of State, Kim Wyman, joined CEOtoCEO to speak about rebuilding trust in our elections and the lessons learned in voting by mail.
Kim walked through election security in Washington State, and explained why she has confidence that the 2020 election was secure, and that voters should have confidence in the election results. She walked viewers through how elections are conducted, what the State has done to build out cybersecurity and physical security to run good elections. She reviewed numerous challenges the State election process faces in the modern era.
Kim explained the chain of custody that each county goes through in a vote by mail election including all of the physical and cyber security checks that are in place to reconcile the election throughout the process.
Kim believes the Washington State election system is one of the best in the country due to the balance of accessibility of voters and security of the processes.
Kim mentioned the cybersecurity threat from foreign actors in 2016/2017 which was traced to Russia, and the types of "False Information" that cause harm or undermine the electoral process in the U.S.
Kim addressed numerous questions from the viewing audience during Q&A including ranked choice voting, security issues with physical voting machines, and ballot harvesting.
